Give me a "D" ... Give me an "E" ...

I wish that I were in the middle of spelling "DEFENSE" - as in my doctoral defense, but in actuality, I'm spelling "DELAY" - as in my graduation has officially been delayed until next semester.

My advisors told me that they think that there is just not enough time between now and Nov. 21st for us to get all the editing done on my disseration. I'm a bit disappointed, as I was really hoping that I could get things finished up. It would have been a close call though, so perhaps it is best to take a step back so we can make sure that the final product is as good as I can make it.

I'm going to keep working on my revisions -- provided my committee continues to get correction to me that is -- so hopefully by the end of the semester this semester there won't be too much left to do so that can defend early next semester.

Now that graduation has been delayed, I will be a little less busy and stressed. I'm not sure how much less, as I will still have to start to turn my attention to looking for a job for when I get out. Applications for academic job start coming due in late November, and it takes a lot of work to put a complete set of application materials together. I really need some wisdom as to what sort of jobs to be applying for. I've given it a lot of thought and prayer, but still don't have a good sense of what the next step will be.

I'm sure everything will become clear in time.
